Climbers Like Me: Abby

Tell us about yourself - who are you and what do you love doing?

I’m Abby, I'm 15 and from the south of England. Climbing is my existence and it has been for the last year, I love everything about it - from the people to the actual climbing. I love walking (mainly the test way) and open water swimming, plus pretty much anything else that involves leaving the house. I hope to become a professional climber in the future and spend all my time with the rocks and the birds.

Give us three words that you identify with most?

Smiley, independent, hopeful.

What brings you the most joy outdoors?

I think it's probably the sounds I can hear when I'm outside. I never really pay attention to what I can hear in day to day life as it can become quite overwhelming but when I'm in nature it's so peaceful. I can hear the birds or the wind in the grass or the water and it never feels too much. It's just existing. I like how the sun warms my face and the breeze cools me, how the world feels like it slows, and how I can do as much as I feel like doing - if that's walking forever or only 40 minutes.

What has been your biggest challenge to date?

Until recently, I spent a lot of my time thinking about things that most people shouldn't have to think about due to my family situation. Changing my mindset to allow me to think a little bit more unrealistically and dream without anxiety. It was hard but definitely worth it. I like how far I have come and want to be able to help people who are in the position I was in.

If you could share a core value or abiding principle with others, what would it be?

Every now and then take a step back and look at where you have come from. Look at what you can control and what you can't, and accept that the outcome can't always be favourable.

Tell us one small change we can make as individuals to help our community?

I just want people to be a bit more open minded and curious. Ever wonder why something is a certain way? look it up. Be happy to learn. Ask people about their experiences and learn from your own.

Abby, this really hit home! The part about changing your mindset and learning to dream without anxiety is something so many of us struggle with — it takes real courage to shift that internal narrative. And your love for the sounds of nature, the wind in the grass, the birds — it's such a beautiful reminder to slow down and just exist for a moment. As someone who's always juggling responsibilities and deadlines, I often forget to step outside and breathe. It's funny how we seek support in different ways; just like how students turn to New Assignment Help UK when they feel overwhelmed, sometimes all we need is the right environment and the right people around us to push…

Abby, your words genuinely stopped me in my tracks — "changing your mindset to dream without anxiety" is something so many of us are quietly working on, no matter our age. There's something beautifully universal about finding a space, whether that's on a rock face or in open water, where the noise fades and you can just exist. Your advice to step back and look at how far you've come is something I try to apply in every area of life, even in high-pressure academic situations — I actually thought of it recently while helping a friend search for HR Assignment Help UK when she was overwhelmed and couldn't see her own progress. The reminder that we can't control every…
