Climbers Like Me: Siddrah

Updated: May 10, 2021

Tell us about yourself - who are you and what do you love doing?

Hiya, I'm Siddrah, I am from a Pakistani Muslim background and I work in Education as an Early Years practitioner. I love climbing and hiking and being outside as it's the best form of therapy. I love sharing my experiences with other people.

Give us three words that you identify with most?

Adventurous, caring and resilient.

What brings you the most joy outdoors?

I love the fact that I get to meet new people of various different backgrounds, I love the resilience being outside gives me. It constantly challenges and teaches me how to pick myself up after each fall. I love how the outdoors can bring people together and help me to form meaningful connections. I love challenging the norm and being inspired by the people around me.

What has been your biggest challenge to date?

My biggest challenge to date has been redefining what success and happiness looks like to me and being okay with that rather than being defined by a set of cultural norms and expectations that dictate my happiness of where I should be in life.

If you could share a core value or abiding principle with others, what would it be?

To always celebrate your small wins and be proud of it and change what you define as success which shouldn't be measured by how many times you get to the top of a route. Enjoy the process as that is the way we grow.

Tell us one small change we can make as individuals to help our community?

To meet different types of people from other backgrounds, diversify your friendship groups, judge less and learn and grow from each other. We all have something valuable to offer even as a beginner.
